When and Where:
Although his exact birth date is not known, Adam Smith's baptism was on June 5 1723 in the town of Kirkcaldy,Fife, Scotland. Although his father died two months after his birth, he took his father's name, Adam Smith, who was a civial servent and a lawyer.Smith's childhood was not well documented, but it is known that he was abducted by gypsies at the age of four but returned after a search was placed for him soon after and he was close with his mother. As a teenager he attended The University of Glasgow. There he obtained his main fosuses of free speech, liberty, and of course reason. At around 17 he left to The Oxford University. He said in a note that he found his studies were better at Glasgow, but this was probably because he found his calling there. Later on Smith took on a teaching career at several universities, such as the University of Edinburgh. After this Smith took on a traveling lecture tutor where he met many other bright people of his time. Some of these were Benjemine Franklin and François Quesnay, the head of a phciatric school.
